メキシコ、TAXCO(タスコ)という街

The city of Taxco, Mexico

hello. I'm the owner.

Recently, it has become more common to see the words “Mexican silver” in used clothing stores, accessory shops, and online shops like ours. Even if you look at the accessories of famous brands, do you think that Mexican accessories are the design source? I often think. It may be an unprecedented Mexican jewelry boom.

About the town called TAXCO, which always appears like a set in the product description of such Mexican jewelry. (If you have never heard of such a town, please close this page quietly.)

I believe that the town of TAXCO played a role in the popularity of Mexican jewelry in recent years.

This city has a long history. Mexico was once conquered by Spain. At that time, the Spaniards found a silver mine and forcibly built it on the surface of a nearby mountain, which seems to be Taxco. After that, it became famous as a silver mining area, and it seems that craftsmen gathered and became Tasco = Silver. (It's messed up)

I went to such TAXCO (Tasco) for the first time this time.

As it was built on the mountain surface, there are many slopes. Also, the altitude is fairly high. I'm an uncle, so I'm out of breath just by walking a little. So even locals use taxis to get around.

↑ For some reason, only Volkswagen taxis

Silver shops are really messed up like convenience stores in Japan.

Another thing that Tasco often talks about is that there was a workshop where jewelry brands such as H, T, and C commissioned their production. This rumor must have made Taxco famous.

I don't know if it's true or not

This may or may not have happened. I think it's easy to understand and it's going to be popular, and I feel like I've been inspired by this slogan and fell in love with Mexican jewelry.

However, to be honest, Tasco's jewelry is lined up in large quantities and they all look the same, or rather, I got the impression that the design has stopped somewhere. There is also a feeling that it has become a souvenir chick.

I went there thinking it was a sacred place, but...

So I tried to write it in Tasco with a sentence that was not cohesive, but if you dig deeper, it seems that the history is deeper, so I want to study more and write it properly.

Please check out the Mexican vintage jewelry that you have found outside of Taxco.
