This is a rug that I bought locally in Mexico. It is officially called Zapotec rug and locally called Tapete. It is from Oaxaca, Mexico. This is a naturally dyed wool rug woven by the Zapotec people of Teotitlan del Valle village. They do not use chemicals for the dyes, but instead use dyes extracted from nature, such as indigo for blue, rosemary for yellow, and cochineal, a bug collected from cacti for red. The yarn is then dyed and woven. The colors are very natural. The unique color combinations made by the local people are also appealing.
This is a beautiful piece with a slightly dull red and light blue color that is unique to natural dyeing. There is also a slight pink weave, and I thought the color combination was unique, so I bought it. This is a one-of-a-kind wool rug.
Size: 100 x 60 cm (excluding fringe)
*Slivers of wood may get mixed in during the dyeing process. We inspect all products at the time of purchase and in Japan, but if you notice any splinters while using the product, please gently remove them using tweezers or similar.
