Locally known as tapete. Oaxaca, Mexico This is a naturally dyed wool rug woven by the Zapotec people of Teotitlan del Valle village. They do not use chemicals for the dyes, but instead use dyes extracted from nature, such as indigo for blue, rosemary for yellow, and cochineal, a bug collected from cacti for red, which are used to dye the yarn before weaving it. The colors are very natural. The unique color combinations of the local people are also a distinctive feature.
This one is a little larger. I bought it because I was attracted to its mysterious color, which is neither blue nor purple. It looks like a single color, but if you look closely you can see that it is made by combining multiple colors of yarn, including black, gray, and blue.
This is a one-of-a-kind wool rug.
Size: 136 x 88 cm (excluding fringe)
*Slivers of wood may get mixed in during the dyeing process. We inspect all products at the time of purchase and in Japan, but if you notice any splinters while using the product, please gently remove them using tweezers or similar.
